Invitation from Pearson
"The Mentoring Programme: Your time is precious. Use it wisely – to nurture the next generation of talent.
At Pearson College London, we are all about delivering an educational experience inextricably linked to real world business. Our reputedly strong industry links are a key part of our success story in delivering work-ready graduates to the world.
A mentor is a valuable piece in the puzzle, giving a young person a role model and influencer, who can help shape their progress and career trajectory. This can include basic soft skills such as CV writing, time management and presentation techniques. It can also extend to more complex skills such as becoming an effective collaborator, or winning and influencing.
As part of our commitment to nurturing future talent, we are now recruiting mentors from across a variety of business sectors to maintain relationships with our growing cohorts of undergraduate students in:
- Business Accounting
- Marketing
- Law
- Consultancy
- Finance
If you have what it takes to inspire the leaders of tomorrow through your own experience, we would love you to join us.
How does it work?
Mentors and mentees are paired based on industry sectors and will require a 6 month commitment. Mentors will be expected to meet with their mentee at least once a month. To start the matching process if potential mentors could forward an email with an expression of interest and we will forward a registration form.
Mentors can take on more than one mentee at a time, if their time allows.
It takes less time than you think
On average, a mentor will commit just 60 minutes a month with a mentee. This time is focused around personal development and can be achieved face-to-face, online, by email or by telephone. The mentor can set the agenda based on the needs of the mentee. The College can facilitate communal meeting space within our campus, or sessions can be held off-site.
We value experience
In general, we look for mentors who are senior leaders within an organisation, but also value those who have recently graduated with two years industry experience and can share their experience of securing their first role.
If you’ve never mentored before, we can provide all the tools and training you need to be effective in your role, and this can count towards your personal and professional CPD.
What are the benefits to you?
Talent spotting: becoming a mentor gives you unrivalled access to the talent pool that exists within Pearson College London, a boutique provider of Degree and Higher level business education.
Talent Nurturing: mentors are in a unique position to see our philosophy of real-world learning in action, and contribute to the learning outcomes for the next crop of future leaders.
Valuable insights: What better way to learn about Gen Z and millennials than spending personal time with them? The period you spend with a mentee can provide you with key business insights into how the younger demographic think, feel and experience the world around them.
