The CIM South West regional board is made up of marketing professionals with a common goal - to add membership value to our fellow members in the South West.
Brian is a double Chartered professional, who is Chair of the South West Regional Board of The Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is also a current member of the CIM's Global Delivery Framework and also feels privileged to serve as a member of the Institute's Learning Advisory Group. In addition to Chartered Manager and Chartered Marketer status, Brian is extremely proud of his Fellowships from the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Leadership and Management. He is also a Masters of Arts and has Post Graduate qualifications in Management and Marketing, as well as a formal teaching qualification.
Brian is happiest though, when he is drawing upon his experiences to help fellow professionals to manifest their own aspirations and is often very moved by the notes of gratitude he receives, which in itself he feels, makes all the hard work very worthwhile. Brian's contributions have been recognised by a number of awards over the years, but he is particularly proud of his Outstanding Contribution Award from the Chartered Management Institute.
Tunde trained originally as an award winning Chemical Engineer but he followed his passion into a career in Marketing. He undertook CIM qualifications as he established himself in Marketing. He has since obtained many professional qualifications including a Green Belt in Six Sigma, MSP Practitioner certification and an Executive MBA. In Africa, Tunde undertook several cross functional commercial roles at Procter & Gamble West Africa and The Coca-Cola Company in Nigeria - winning a global recognition award for Speed to market at P&G. Since moving to the UK, Tunde has worked at Nielsen (winning a national Client Service award) and now works for himself as a Marketing Consultant and Interim Manager.
He brings both client and agency side perspectives as well as diversity to the Regional Board. Tunde’s vision is that CIM and Marketing obtain more recognition for its contribution to the prosperity of its stakeholders.
Vice Chair - Events
Carolyn is a marketing communications specialist within professional services and B2B sectors. She has over 25 years’ experience planning, implementing and delivering communications’ strategies.
A marketing graduate, her career began in the media, before moving to advertising and direct marketing agencies. She stared her own business in the mid-nineties, combining both PR and marketing services for professional service and predominantly B2B clients.
Carolyn joined CIM in the early nineties and was one of the first cohort of members to become Chartered Marketers in 1998. She became involved with her local branch, and subsequently CIM in the South West about 15 years ago. She is passionate about supporting professional marketers across the region through skill development and knowledge share, and promoting the value of professional marketing disciplines to SMEs to drive growth and achieve business objectives.
Volunteer Partnerships Manager
Phil is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Chartered Marketer and holds diplomas in Marketing, Direct Marketing and the CAM Diploma in Digital Marketing. He is responsible for raising the profile of the CIM among members and the wider marketing and business community across the East of England and Greater London.
After leaving school at 16, Phil went to college to train to become an Accountant – there he saw the light and switched to studying marketing with the CIM. The rest is history… Consequently, he is now a strategic marketer with over 20 years’ experience in a range of senior marketing positions.
Previously he was Director of Marketing at Archant Norfolk, part of Archant Group Ltd, one of the leading regional media companies in the UK. Phil was responsible for the marketing and sales of Archant Norfolk’s newspaper, web and magazine titles. In addition, he controlled the company’s market research and database marketing activities. He specialises in New Product Development, Marketing Strategy and Market Research as well as integrated marketing communications.
In his spare time he likes to bob around the Mediterranean on a huge cruise ship visiting exotic locations. Cruising also gives him the opportunity to practice his ballroom dancing skills.
Adam is Marketing Manager for Aerospace Bristol, a new £19m industrial heritage museum that boasts the last Concorde ever to fly as its stunning centrepiece. His responsibilities include devising and implementing the marketing strategy for the museum’s upcoming launch, establishing and continuously developing Aerospace Bristol's brand identity, and leading the marketing team in raising awareness among a wide variety of audiences.
Adam has a keen interest in all aspects of tourism marketing and a particular enthusiasm for educational visitor attractions and STEM learning. He originally trained as an engineer, graduating with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol, and began his career in tourism marketing at the At-Bristol science centre. He also holds an MA in Journalism from the University of the West of England, a CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing, and is currently working towards Chartered Marketer status.As Tourism Ambassador, Adam is keen to share information and advice and build networks that will help to strengthen marketing across the South West: supporting tourism marketers in their careers, promoting the role of marketing within tourist organisations, and championing the fantastic visitor experiences our region has to offer.
An environmental scientist, sustainability practitioner and marketing professional, Carole has more than 30 years business experience working in the steel industry, media, engineering and multi-sector consultancy. For the past 21 years she has specialised in environment and sustainable development with a focus on raising awareness, promoting attitudinal shifts and supporting behavioural change around sustainable development issues in organisations across all sectors.
Carole holds an MSc in Responsibility and Business Practice from the University of Bath for her work on language and gender in sustainability and is a founding member of a number of sustainability fora and founding associate of the Association of Sustainability Practitioners. In 2008 Carole co-launched and became Director of Blokesbags, an expanding online retail business.
Student and Education ambassador
After studying Arts Management at De Montfort University, Claire became interested in media and communications and spent a short time as a journalist before working in communications and then moving into marketing.
Claire has more than five years’ experience in marketing, during which time she has completed both the CIM Level 4 and Level 6 qualifications and currently is working towards her Chartered Marketer status, whilst working full time.
Throughout her time at Screwfix, Claire worked in various marketing roles including as the Local Marketing Manager, overseeing the launch of new stores and trade counter marketing initiatives, and the Key Promotions and B2B Marketing Manager before leaving in August 2017.
Claire is now taking on the challenge of being the Global Brand Manager for Triton Tools at Powerbox International.
With a passion for continual learning, Claire is excited to be part of the team as the Student and Education Ambassador and meeting new students as well as giving advice to those who are currently studying.
Helen is an internationally experienced B2B marketing leader, she is Global Marketing Manager at Verisk.Helen operates at a senior level having gained considerable experience in forming local and regional strategy and setting SMART marketing objectives. She draws on her digital (including social media) and offline communications, event management, PR, direct marketing and research skills to form part of her business solutions. Developing rapport with customers, stakeholders and work colleagues at all levels comes naturally and delivering successful business outcomes is always Helen's focus. These are aspects Helen has been able to combine through the CIM Meet a Mentor Programme that matches experienced marketers with emerging talent. Helen is a CIM regional ambassador for the B2B industry.
SME (and agencies) ambassador
Since joining a London agency back in 1987, Janice has worked agency side for nearly thirty years across B2B, B2C and Employer Branding with clients globally such as Sky, NYSE, Waitrose and IBM.Whilst her focus was on supporting agencies to achieve commercial success, Janice now works closely with them to inspire and effect positive change to maximise productivity and the bottom line. Outside of work and family, Janice also works with charities to support with strategy and marketing.
Her role with the CIM Board is to support Smaller Businesses and freelance Marketers to reach their potential and expand their knowledge with the latest insights into core marketing competencies. As a Fellow of the CIM Janice is passionate about the learning opportunities available to keep Marketers knowledge relevant in a constantly changing and growing landscape.
Digital communications ambassador
Kath had a successful career in higher education administration before completing an MBA at Exeter and moving into marketing. After two years living and working in Florida she returned to the UK where, with her husband, she grew a digital marketing agency from 2 to 50 people and almost £2m turnover before selling the agency in 2015. There was no formal training in digital marketing in 2003, so Kath committed to a path of continuous professional development and self improvement. This approach helped to ensure the business successfully evolved in a competitive and turbulent industry.
Kath now runs Digital Academy Collective, a Bristol-based consultancy working with in-house marketing teams who lack a depth of knowledge in digital marketing. She helps them develop and implement effective online strategies and upskill their teams through bespoke training. Kath is also a Part-time Marketing Director with The Marketing Centre.
As Digital Communications Ambassador, Kath is looking to raise awareness of how the CIM can help support and develop marketing skills within businesses who rely on marketing expertise in their staff. Many agency staff in particular have no formal marketing training or access to CPD and are not aware of the benefits the CIM offers.
Outside of work Kath is a volunteer and Trustee for her local Mencap charity and is learning to sail!
Maggie spent most of her career working with Blue Chip organisations until just over five years ago when she left the corporate work and set up her own company called Smart Thinking Consultancy based in Marlborough. Maggie now provides a full complement of sales and marketing services to help businesses strive forward in their target market and growth. She has a strong track record in growing customer relationships and using a variety of bespoke marketing strategies to generate demand, drive sales and grow businesses of all sizes. Maggie works throughout the country delivering marketing plans and implementation.
Maggie enjoys horse riding, reading and walking her two French Bulldogs. She also has a history of studying counselling and Psychology.
Senior Marketing Ambassador
Owen has been actively involved in the CIM as a student, a Chartered Marketer, and latterly as an FCIM. For the past four years, Owen's been a member of the South West Regional Board, where he focuses on programmes for the Chartered Marketer and FCIM communities.
As a practicing senior marketer in industry, Owen has worked for a number of small and large organisations in the IT sector – the last 19 years for IBM, where he has held a wide range number of leadership positions in marketing at UK and European levels. Outside of work, the CIM, and his family, Owen works with a number of not-for-profit organisations on strategy and marketing initiatives. Up until recently, Owen was also a board member for Somerset’s inward investment company, where he worked with organisations and communities to stimulate economic development & inward investment into the region.
Owen will work hard on the CIM South West Board to ensure that all stakeholders see a CIM geared more towards the needs of members in the roots and branches, and also an institute with an increased ability to champion & promote the rapidly changing role of marketing as a flexible, responsive, and strategic business discipline which should be the heartbeat of all successful organisations.
