What did you want to be when you were growing up? I wanted to be a pilot..... I loved the idea of seeing the world! But as I got older I realised what I was really interested in was business and working with people.

Summarise your qualifications and experience: I did a degree in business and economics and I’m currently doing my CIM Level 7 qualification. I have always worked in professional services and have been in a senior marketing position since 2011. I enjoy being part of the CIM North East Regional Board.

When did you join the business? June 2007

What did you do before you worked here? I joined Tait Walker as a placement student at uni, I loved it so much I’ve never left!

What attracted you to your current role? I loved maths and numbers and originally wanted to go in to accountancy, so getting to do what I really love, in an industry I’m really interested in was a real draw for me.

What is your remit in your role? To develop and implement marketing and business development strategy across all offices and help the teams to build structured communication plans.

Do you manage a team? Yes, I manage two others, we all have very different skills and so I really enjoy getting to be part of a team with such talent.

Do you currently get involved in anything to inspire new marketers? I set up a network for young professionals and marketers in 2014 and have always enjoyed encouraging young marketers to succeed. The CIM gives me a great platform to be able to create events and present at career days and workshops.

How do you use digital marketing and social media in your business? We have an in house design and digital guru who I learn from every day, we use social media and digital marketing to engage with our clients and contacts in a more interesting way, for example looking at our community work and CSR. Accountancy isn’t always the most exciting subject!

Do you use social media personally? Yes, I enjoy using social media. Facebook is probably my ‘favourite’ with LinkedIn and Twitter a close second!

Why is the North East a great place to work and build your career? I spend a little time working in various cities in the UK through our national association. I can honestly say, whilst I love the opportunity to go to new places, there really is no place like home. The support networks here and the feelings of real North East pride are what make me happy to live and work here. And after travelling on tubes for a few days, you remember the nice countryside we have and the brilliant quality of life.

What’s your favourite thing about the region? For me, it’s getting to meet so many new people who are all so enthusiastic for the region to succeed, not just their business but their neighbours and the factory down the road.

Words of advice to new marketers… Marketing is evolving and won’t slow down. Make sure you keep tech savvy and always know what is coming next. If you don’t someone else will.
