Bournemouth University students going for glory in the final of CIM’s “The Pitch”

The Pitch

This year two teams from Bournemouth University have made it to the finals of the CIM’s national student competition, The Pitch! Each year the CIM task marketing and business students in their second or third year with a real-life marketing challenge, set by a global brand. If they impress the panel, they'll be in the running for a selection of prizes to kick-start their marketing career.

This year’s The Pitch challenge is to create a marketing plan and related campaign for Hawaiian Tropic developing a unique brand positioning for a target segment of young women in the UK. The brief centres around themes of brand positioning, empowerment of young women and the importance of sun protection. The two student teams from Bournemouth University; Rebecca Renouf, Felicity Morel-Rankin, and Joel Sa Luiz from the BSc (Hons) Marketing degree and Jack Donaldson and Jonathan Shaw from the BA (hons) Advertising degree, will go compete against the eight other shortlisted teams on 14 February 2019 when they pitch their campaign plans to a panel of industry leaders.

Graham Goode, Senior Lecturer in marketing Communications at Bournemouth University said, “We are really proud of our students’ track record in The Pitch and this year is no exception. With two teams making the shortlist this unique competition offers a chance to impress that could make a real impact on the students’ placement opportunities and careers post university.”

Bournemouth University students are no stranger to success at competing in The Pitch taking 3rd place in 2018 and 2nd place in the 2017 competitions. Read more about The Pitch and follow along at #CIMPitch.
