CIM is inviting North East businesses to an event at Tait Walker on 13 December specifically looking at implementation of the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and how companies can demonstrate compliance.

Kirsty Ramsey, who is speaking at the event, explained, "The introduction of GDPR in May 2018 is fast approaching it will fundamentally change the way we are allowed to market to customers, how a business can collect and hold data and how you communicate both internally and externally".  She continued, "This event is the last in a series of three GDPR workshops, and will focus on implementation".  Kirsty, Marketing Manager at Tait Walker LLP, will discuss the practical changes that need to be made and use live business examples of changing systems, changing marketing policies and what needs to be in place in case your business is audited by the ICO.

CIM is committed to working with organisations to ensure best data practice is embedded; to raise standards and help to rebuild customer trust. To do this, CIM has launched a campaign entitled Data Right - calling on businesses to be more responsible with the way they manage data, in order to improve the relationship between businesses and customers.

Some description

CIM's Data Right pledge asks businesses to commit to do four key things:

Be clear: businesses should tell consumers how and when they will use their data

Show respect: companies need to ensure trust, honesty and accountability are at the heart of the relationship with their customers

Be in the know: businesses need to continually familiarise themselves with the dos and don’ts of data rights and the law, such as the upcoming changes due to new GDPR legislation, and best practice

Show the benefits: businesses must help customers understand how data collection can benefit them

The event, sponsored by Tait Walker LLP, is titled 'GDPR: your implementation checklist and how to evidence that your business is compliant' and is open to CIM members and non-members.
