Some descriptionNo marketer can fail to be aware of new, forthcoming legislation on data protection, but do you know how it will impact you and your business, and how you need to do to comply with it?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect on 25 May 2018 and is the biggest change in data protection since the Data Protection Act 1998. It is vital that marketers understand the implications of the new law because it will fundamentally change the way organisations are allowed to market to customers, how they can collect and store data and how they can communicate both internally and externally.

CIM Midlands is organising a legal briefing on March 29 in Birmingham to give members an insight into the new GDPR law, including the key changes coming into force, what it means for organisations and individuals and why you cannot afford to ignore it.

The seminar will be hosted by national law firm Weightmans LLP and led by Mark Surguy and Ian Hartley.  Mark is a Partner in the firm with 30 years’ experience in private legal practice and is an expert on interrelationships of data privacy law with other facets of commercial law and practice. Ian is an Associate with Weightmans and specialises in human resources and industrial relations.

Event organiser Andrew Davison, CIM Midlands Regional Board, commented “GDPR impacts on all organisations and individuals handling data and it is essential that they understand and implement the new regulations. Organisations demonstrating GDPR compliance can gain credibility and importantly client confidence that their data is well managed and secure.”

This CIM Midlands event offers marketers a chance to understand what the GDPR means for digital communications, to appreciate the risks around non-compliance and the opportunities that the new law presents. Delegates will also receive guidance on practical steps to take to prepare for the GDPR.

With the GDPR deadline fast approaching, demand for places at this free event is sure to be high, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
