Wrapping up the ‘Meet the Mentors’ event

Our popular mentoring event took place online for members across Greater London and the South East on 2 November 2022. Existing and potential ‘mentees’ all agreed that whether you are the mentor or the mentee, the mentoring relationship can push your career to new heights.

The ‘Meet the Mentors’ event was highly dynamic and energetic for all attendees. With a great introduction and welcome session, attendees got a chance to find out more about the CIM’s mentoring programme and it’s importance whatever stage you are at in your career.

The benefits of mentoring are myriad. For individuals, good mentoring can lead to greater career success, including promotions, raises, and increased opportunities. Although it sounds amazing, it’s important to remember that mentoring is not a magic wand that automatically creates success. The truth is that effective mentoring takes effort, and creating successful mentoring relationships requires specific skills, sensibilities and structure from both the mentor and the mentee. Success happens when both parties take responsibility for making it work.

The ‘Meet the Mentors’ event was designed to provide small groups of existing or potential ‘mentees’ a taste of the CIM mentoring experience during a succession of 20-minute sessions with individuals in their very own Zoom breakout room. This was followed by a short demonstration of the online platform, MentoringMatch.Me, which can be accessed via your MyCIM account. The platform included a learning and development toolkit, which offers a wide range of support materials.

Mentoring is a great opportunity to deliver a rewarding and potentially life-changing experience for both the mentor and mentee. It is one of the most important things a person can do to enhance their career and professional life. It takes time and a commitment but it is well worth the effort. Whether you are a mentor or the mentee, it’s a win-win for your career.

The CIM has lots of great resources to help you find a mentor or to become one. If you are a member, you have free access to CIM’s mentoring platform. You can access the mentoring platform via your MyCIM account.

Are you a mentor or mentee with the CIM? Why not share your experience of the mentoring relationship and the join the conversation in our LinkedIn group.
