Profile: safeguarding brand ads online and self-branding

Some descriptionIt was way back in the second half of the 1800’s when John Wanamaker famously said “Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is, I don't know which half.” How times have changed… or have they.

Although measuring ROMI and advertising effectiveness is virtually a science these days, the prevalence of online advertising fraud is creating the modern-day equivalent of John’s dilemma. It’s a phenomenon being tackled by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and other industry partners, under the auspices of JICWEBS, to inform standards and guidelines in the UK.

In our first session, Dee Frew, IAB Programmes Manager, will look at the scale of the problem and what advertisers and publishers can do to ensure the significant investment brands make in digital advertising is effective and reaches the right audience.

Our second session will look at how you can create an authentic, online persona that gets you and your business noticed… for all the right reasons. James Potter, aka The LinkedIn Man, will offer some advice on how you can develop your own brand, language and style.

This event is the sixth in the Professional Marketing Series designed to support marketers aspiring to reach the highest level of our profession.

About the speakers

Dee Frew joined the IAB in 2014 and looks after key industry initiatives relating to Ad Tech and verification. He has been involved in online advertising since the turn of the century in various capacities as a trafficker, fraud investigator and account manager for companies including DoubleClick, MSN and Yahoo. Currently he is at the forefront of industry conversations relating to viewability, brand safety, fraud and ad blocking.

James Potter learned how to use LinkedIn hands-on … not by reading a book, but by playing around with it in his role as a corporate sales director and seeing what worked. His success enabled him to pull in over £10 million in sales while he was in corporate life which encouraged him to launch his consultancy and training business, The Network Coach Limited. James specialises in helping executives use LinkedIn for more effective networking and business building.

James is an enthusiastic LinkedIn evangelist:
“I have the best job in the world! I get to turn the 'lights on' in people’s heads, to share the things that they haven't realised, highlight paths they haven't considered and share what LinkedIn can do to help them in business and make their future even better.”
